End of Year Reports

At this time of the year, many children are receiving their end of year reports. This can be an anxious time for parents and children - especially after the year we have had with so many school closures.

Schools will have been assessing children to this point and reflecting this in the teacher comments. It is easy, and normal, at this time to focus on your child’s achievement and grade.

However, try and acknowledge their progress rather than attainment. Encourage them to be proud of how far they have come and how every step in their learning is a source of pride and achievement whatever their final grade.

Try to reflect on how much your child has achieved and how fantastic they have been at coping through the Covid school closures. Praise them for this - and acknowledge these achievements. “Look what you can do now that you couldn’t do last year despite school being closed so much! That is amazing!”

Also remember to praise yourself too. and how much you too have achieved through home schooling. This has been a difficult year for everyone and you also deserve praise and recognition.

If you would like some extra support for you and your child over the summer and before starting their new year group in September, we have recorded a FREE refresher programme to help build skills and confidence for maths and English for every year group, Reception to end of Year 6, which you can access through the subscription page using coupon code ‘FREE-REFRESHER’ at the checkout. We hope this will help many families after this difficult year.
