Helping your child with their tables..

One of the most important things you could practise with your children is their times tables. It is only since I have been a teacher, that I have realised just how much these are relied upon in so many maths topics. As adults, we are also relying on them all day long in the course of our daily lives (e.g. cooking quantities of food, doubling cake ingredients, working out the cost of things in the supermarket etc)

Some children can learn and remember them by rote learning whereas other children find this almost impossible. There are different techniques you can use:

• Picture association for the ones they are finding difficult

• Pick a theme for a whole times table e.g. dinosaurs, and create a whole pack of picture association cards with each times table

• We have put many other tips on Instagram throughout last week. Check out the videos and tips to help you using fingers, patterns, links and association.

Remember our free refresher programme over the summer is available through our subscription page using code FREE-REFRESHER to help build confidence before children start their new year group in September.
